On Friday, a special investigation team of Thiruvananthapuram Police arrested Malayalam actress Dhanya Mary Varghese along with her actor husband and brother-in-law from Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu. According to the police, all detainees who were absconding in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kerala are associated with Rs 130 crores financial fraud by a real estate company owned by Dhanya’s husband family.
As per stated by the Police, Dhanya was Director, sales; her husband John Jacob was Managing Director; and her father-in-law, Jacob Samson who was arrested one month earlier for supposedly deceiving his real estate firm’s clients was the Chainman of Samson and Sons Builders and Developers Private Ltd. Jacob Samson was arrested by the district Crime Branch for inquiry and following his capture John and his brother Samson went AWOL.
Numerous complaints were apparently filed in different Police Station of Thiruvananthapuram against the actor couple and the Samson Builders charging that they promoted themselves for constructing 500 apartments and 20 villas in multiple parts of the district in two years. Moreover, they collected Rs 100 crores from several clients who had invested in the apartments and villas, which were never built, and another 30 crores from different investors offering high rates of return. The Company had failed to stick to its promise of providing apartment and villa in the given time period and so the duped people approached the police and filed a case of monetary fraud.
Her father-in-law had purportedly exploited the influence and fame of the celebrity pair to attract investors. Conversely, actress Varghese had deluded people by presenting herself as the director on company website whereas in reality she was not. Special investigation team formed by City Police Commissioner has held her for questioning concerning her part in this swindle.
Dhanya entered film industry in 2006 with Tamil film Thirudi, later with Nanma in 2007, she debuted in Malayalam. In 2011 after doing around 20 films, which were mostly Malayalam like Nayakan, Thalappavu, Red Chillies, Kerala Café, and Pranayam, she got engaged to John and in January 2012 she married him and quit acting.
