“Let me be surrounded by luxury; I can do without the necessities!”-Oscar Wilde
It’s the dream of all of us – how do we create luxury on a budget? How often do we envy the glamorous interiors of some celebrity home only to shake our head in dismay thinking that we would never be able to afford it? Well, we thought of ways in which we can project an aura of luxury without cutting too deep a hole in our pockets.
Make it spacious
You can’t always add space (square feet) to your bathroom, but you can definitely create an illusion of a bigger room. To make your bathroom look spacious you must get rid of all the stuff that you don’t need.
Decluttering is the first step towards a luxurious space.

The regular size tile is 3 by 6 inches. Try to look for 4 by 8 inches or 2 by 9 inches. Also, try to pick lighter shades as dark colours can make the place look gloomy and smaller.
Now that you have a large-looking bathroom, let us fill it with more luxe items.
Fill in the lights
Lights can easily change the perceived size of the room as well as the mood. If you are blessed with sufficient supply of natural light, then use it to your advantage. Otherwise, add some lighting to your bathroom.
You can choose from all sorts of lights and lighting fixtures available in the market. There are so many options for wall-mounted, chandeliers, pendant, etc. The placement of the light also plays an important role. For example – Lights on the top of the mirror may create shadows. So placing task lights on the sides of the mirror is recommended.
Colour it wisely
Using soft, neutral and pastel shades as the background can make the room look serene and spacious.
As per Vastu, bathrooms walls need to be white or cream coloured. If you don’t believe in Vastu then feel free to pick any soft and neutral shade of your choice. To make it colourful you may add contrasting accessories. Similarly, a light-coloured floor can make space look wide and open.

Touch of elegance
“Luxury is the ease of a t-shirt in a very expensive dress.” ― Karl Lagerfeld
Luxury can be the touch of granite, marble, or polished wood. Don’t have those? Luxury can also be the touch of plush towels, cosy bathrobes, and fluffy rugs. However, it’s recommended to own what you can maintain easily.
You want it to be elegant, luxe, and stylish but also low maintenance.
Smell of luxury
A smell isn’t just a fragrance, it’s a memory.
A beautiful fragrance can also uplift your mood, improve your concentration, and aid in sound sleep.
Adding some greenery, flowers, candles and scented diffusers can give your bathroom a different aura.
You may also create a spa at home. Bring in the bath bombs, salts, scrubs and products of your choice and fragrances.
Luxury lives in the finer details. – Iggy Azalea
Luxury is anything that feels special. It doesn’t have to be expensive.
Add any elements that you want or that represents you. It can be a bathtub or a chair or an art piece. It can also be a simple modification of regular things as per your desire. Luxury need not always come at a price.
