Life at RoofandFloor: Moving Towards Greater Gender Diversity

Finding tech stacks, resolving complex tech issues, building algorithms, and making the product more efficient – this is how Priya Sebastian’s typical day looks like. She is the Assistant General Manager-Technology at RoofandFloor, an area primarily dominated by men in many organisations. Not so for Priya who has been in technology for over a decade now.

In the finance team, Vani G singlehandedly takes care of the finance department of the company. Throughout the day, you can see her juggling between hundreds of excel sheets.

Take a quick look into a conference room, and you can see the Brand Marketing Head- Geetha Raj- briefing the advertising agency about the next big brand campaign. (Check out the earlier one here)

At RoofandFloor, inclusion isn’t just a buzzword; it is an instrument of innovation.

In the year of #MeToo and Time’s Up, this International Women’s Day amplified the spotlight on women calling for change.

“Diversity is part of our DNA,” says Jayashree Jayanth, Associate Vice President-Human Resources, with a proud smile. She further adds,” Keeping up with the theme for this year, #PressforProgress, I feel that there’s a stronger call-to-action to press forward and further progress gender parity.”

Equal employee opportunity

LinkedIn’s Global Recruitment Trends Report that was released in January this year revealed that diversity hiring is one of the top priorities for Indian recruiters this year. RoofandFloor is no different.

As a fast-growing organisation, RoofandFloor has made a formal commitment to diversity within its workforce. Organisational growth stems from the synergies of people’s differences.

Gender Diversity

“We are committed to a culture of inclusiveness and believe in giving every individual an opportunity to succeed. RoofandFloor’s workforce today is more diverse and inclusive than ever before. I firmly believe that great things come from the synergies of our differences and results in some of the best solutions for our customers (homebuyers),” says Gowri Shankar Nagarajan, CEO, RoofandFloor.

Currently, RoofandFloor’s gender diversity rate is 28% as against the average industry rate of 30-35%. That number continues to grow. Meanwhile, RoofandFloor is focusing on empowering women to reach for higher roles. A high percentage of leadership positions are occupied by women.

From HR to Brand Marketing to Operations to Product to Finance– RoofandFloor’s wonder women are leading the show with passion and dedication.

“We refuse to stifle creativity. We value each employee that helps to make us who and what we are,” adds Jayashree.

Reiterating the same, Priya says, “Being a mother of two, finding work-life balance and doing justice to the role is a major challenge. Thankfully, RoofandFloor has been very supportive and has given me enough flexibility to balance my time.”

As part of its commitment to promoting gender diversity, RoofandFloor has set specific targets. “By end of this fiscal, we aim to increase our gender diversity rate to 30% from the existing 28%,” informs Prapulla Umesh, who leads Talent Acquisition as Deputy Manager-Human Resource. “And as an organisation, we are committed to continuously improving diversity to make RoofandFloor an even better workplace,” she adds.
