6 Home Decor Trends to Try in 2019

It’s a new year, and therefore it’s time for new trends! The year before was shaped by metals, pastels, naturals, and geometric patterns. What’s coming up in 2019? Well, we know what’s the colour that’s going to rock this year, thanks to Pantone’s Colour of the Year, which is “Living Coral.”

Let’s take a look at what else is going to stay on top of decor trends this year.

Boho wallpapers

Wallpapers are set to take centre stage this year in all their colourful glory. And not just any wallpaper.

Boho and chic designs are in and traditional patterns seem to be fading out as the purpose of the wallpaper has now expanded from just a piece of decoration to a piece that’s making a statement about your lifestyle.

Think bold and unconventional like tropical designs or geometrical abstracts.

Natural designs

Say goodbye to modern edges and say hello to organic curves. This year is all about embracing sofas with softly rounded arms, and curved coffee tables and chairs.

Get yourself wrapped up in shapely ottomans, puffy pouffes, and plush couches. They lend a fluid and dynamic feel to your rooms and also make for eye-catching change.

Minimalism seems to stay on as the trend from last year. After all, who can resist beautiful decluttered spaces? Marie Kondo is taking over the world now, and furniture overload is now a beginning to be a thing of the past.

Neutral shades, eco-friendly materials, and clean spaces are now firm favourites.

We have to admit that minimalism not only looks good but also instills a sense of calm.

Bold florals are making a comeback through wallpapers, rugs, cushion covers, and even tablecloths. Large florals command attention and if that’s exactly what you are seeking then look no further.

However, if that thought intimidates you go for smaller ones, which are more old-school. Play with the colours too. Muted colours with large but fading patterns are also a great way to establish just the right tone for your room with large but fading patterns are also a great way to establish just the right tone for your room.

Terrazzo, too, is making a comeback this year. And in style. Terrazzo or mosaic flooring is akin to wallpaper for the walls. It is stylish on its own and eliminates the need for any further floor toppings like rugs or carpets.

It is also perfect for warm climates, maintaining floor temperatures at a consistent cool level. Its durability and ability to take on a lot of wear and tear makes it the perfect decor for your patio or driveway as well.

Artisanal and handcrafted

Tying in with the minimalism trend is the preference for artisanal items. Decorative items, furnishings, and textiles handcrafted by rural artisans have begun to shape home interiors already.

Everything from stunning decoupage boxes to knitted rugs that are affordable, sustainable, and rooted in Indian heritage now find a place in a lot of homes.

If you want a rustic and earthy decor then block prints, tie and dye, and other traditional Indian patterns would combine perfectly with other natural materials like wood, bamboo or cane that these artisans use.

  1. Hi,
Thank you for sharing this awesome advice.
Now I’m gonna try out the stuff that you suggested like terrazzo and handicrafts and make my dull home more lively.

  2. Why not Handicrafts? They are unique, classy and add a richness to the entire arrangement of your home decor.

  3. Let your furniture and decor tell a story by incorporating unique silhouettes, colors and patterns inspired by your passions.

  4. Great ideas! And minimalism is the key! That’s something you should always keep in mind while setting your home. It makes your space look graceful and calm at the same time. And I’ve always been a fan of handcrafted stuff!
