In the early 1900s, the Nizam of Hyderabad gifted land to Aamir Ali, one of his Jagirdars. He built a small palace on that plot of land, which today houses the famous Nature Cure Hospital. This is how Ameerpet in Hyderabad derived its name. The third observatory of India, the Nizamia Observatory, was also set up here in Ameerpet by the Nizams. The observatory still stands as a testimony to the development of Ameerpet.

“About a decade ago, you could only see the houses of the Nawabs, land that was given to Jagirdars by the Nizams, and a few eateries along the National Highway 9. In fact, since the NH 9 was easily accessible from Ameerpet, properties here used to command a higher price compared to Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills,” informs Khaled Salem, a long-time resident of Ameerpet.
