Whitefield is a Bangalore suburb of Karnataka, India. Founded in the late 1800s as a community for the Eurasians, Whitefield was a tiny little village at Bangalore's eastern fringe until the late 1990s, when the nearby IT boom transformed it into a big suburb. The town was a very small settlement. It's a large part of Greater Bangalore now. In 1882 the Maharajas, King Chamarajas Wodeyar IX, issued 3,900 acres (16 km2) of land in Whitefield to the union of Eurasian and Anglo-Indian communities for the creation of agricultural settlements. There were then nearly 170 representatives with a team of thirty. They formed part of the only community in India that could be named by the Europeans and Eurasians.
