Vaastu shastra is all about managing the energies in the space that you have to the best possible extent. Most homebuyers prefer east-facing homes as it is associated with good luck and prosperity. Similarly, for residential plots too, Vaastu has some guidelines.
One of the main reasons for Vaastu defect in residential plots is its shape, says Gauravv Mittal, a renowned vaastu expert.
Explaining the same, he says, “Before buying a plot of land, people must observe the shape and size of the plot. If the plot has defects, then it needs to be corrected before the construction begins to avoid problems later.”
Ideal plot shapes
- According to experts, the square and rectangle plots are the best as these are known to bring wealth, happiness, and prosperity for the residents. These are also known to be preferred by architects.
- Circular plots are good only if the construction is also circular.
“Irregular, triangular plots always reflect bad energies. If the sizes or shapes are not symmetrical, the magnetic forces are distributed unevenly and affect the Vaastu energy,” says Gauravv.
- Gomukhi or cow-shaped plots that are narrow from the front and broad from the back are auspicious for residential purpose.
- Hexagon and octagonal-shaped plots are also considered good if all other Vaastu principles are followed.
- Semicircle, cart-shaped, star-shaped, and L- shaped plots are a strict no.
Understanding the effect of irregular-shaped plots
- Triangular-shaped: Hinders progress of the residents and cause problems from the government.
- Cart-shaped: Causes financial loss.
- Bhadarshan Shaped: Suitable only for government buildings.
- Damru-shaped: Negatively impacts the eyesight of the residents.
- Drum-shaped: Not good for women of the house.
- Bow-shaped: Attracts fear of theft, loot, attack by enemies.
- Lion face (Sher Mukhi): Suitable for commercial building.
- Polygonal plot: Invite lawsuits.
- Drum-shaped: Loss of family members and increase in animosity.
Best directions
Plots with an entrance in the north or east direction are auspicious. Additionally, plots with the entrance in the south also work well. Plots facing north or north-east is good for women.
What to avoid?
Avoid buying residential plots near a cemetery, hospital, and industrial buildings. A plot with any obstruction like a bridge, electric pole, or a building on the north and east side should also be avoided.
Further, plots with river to the south and mountains to the north are best avoided. Lastly, the plot should not be between two large buildings.
Vaastu for plots with roads
- If a plot is surrounded by roads from all four or even three sides, it is considered auspicious for both residential as well as commercial buildings.
- Plots that have adjacent roads to the south and west leads to wealth creation.
- A corner plot with roads in the north and east is great.
Remedies
- If the plot of land is not flat, level it to rectify problems.
- The negative impact of an irregular plot can be reduced by dividing the plot into two with separate compound walls for each portion.
