Simple Vaastu Tips for a Rental Home

Vaastu plays an important role, not only when buying a property but also while renting one. However, while selecting a home for rent, it is not always possible to get a Vaastu compliant home. 

“While structural changes are not possible, there are several remedies that one can do to improve the Vaastu quotient of a rental home,” says Gauravv Mittal, a renowned vastu expert.

Explaining the importance of Vaastu, he adds, “The meaning of Vaastu is dwelling, which is the home for god and humans. Vaastu Shastra is based on various energies that come from the atmosphere like solar energy from the sun, cosmic energy, lunar energy, thermal energy, magnetic energy, light energy, and wind energy. These energies can be balanced to enhance peace, prosperity, and success. If a house is made according to these principles, the inmates can enjoy all the happiness in life.” 

So, what are the things you must check before finalising a rental home?  

• Experts suggest that while renting a home, check the directions of each room. In an ideal scenario, the entrance of the home should be in the north, east, or north-east direction. The bedroom should be in the south, west, or the east direction of the home, while the best direction for the kitchen is south-east.

• Another important thing to check is the history of the property and previous occupiers. While it may not be easy to find that out but you can always ask the landlord or your broker. 

• Most of the landlords get the property painted before the new tenant moves in. If possible, request them to paint the walls in lighter shades. 

The quick-fixes

Now, let’s look at some simple tips that you can use to improve the Vaastu of your rental home. 

• The entrance of the home should always be well-lit. You can do so by adding a bright light near the main door. 

• Light incense sticks or essential oils to cleanse the home and to keep it smelling fresh.

• Keep your home clutter-free as clutter attracts negative energy.

• Avoid keeping prickly cactus plants in the house.
• Do not hoard stale food, withered flowers, torn clothes, waste paper, waste materials, empty tins, old jars, and other things that are not in use. 
• Ensure that the door hinges are smooth and do not make any noise while opening or closing. Don’t forget to grease the hinges periodically.
• While paintings add beauty to a home, be careful in selecting them. Avoid paintings that depict depressing scenes. Instead go for a picture of say, a sunrise, an ocean, mountains, flowers, or laughing children.

Bedroom

• While keeping a television in the bedroom may seem tempting, it is best to avoid it.
• Do not keep any water fountain or plants in the bedroom. 
• Always use single mattresses and bedsheets.

Living room

• Arrange the furniture to form a square or a circle or an octagon. 
• Decorate the corners.

• Place a picture of bright sunrise or a family picture on the southern wall of the living room.
• If you want to keep an aquarium, place it in the north-east corner of the living room. 

Kitchen 

• A mirror in the kitchen is a strict no.
• The stove should be in the south-east corner of the kitchen so that the person faces the east while cooking.
• Drinking water should be in the north-east direction of the kitchen.

Bathroom

• Keep the bathroom doors closed as much as possible.
