How to Feng Shui Each Room in Your Home

Everything in your home, from the carefully selected wall paints to the colour of the curtains to those houseplants is a reflection of who you are. Similarly, each room in your house is associated with a different aspect of your life.

Feng Shui is composed of two Chinese words: Feng, meaning wind, and Shui, meaning water.

Feng Shui allows you to discover the positive potential in every spot of your home and make it work for you.  Implementing Feng Shui rules at home can cultivate positive energy and promote peace and harmony

As a beginner, you can start with basic Feng Shui rules and gradually move on to more complex levels.  Symmetry is the key to the science of Feng Shui. It signifies balance and harmony in your life. Here are some helpful Feng Shui tips for each room to begin with:

Bedroom

Don’t:

  • Position anything right above your bed
  • Keep the bed under the beam
  • Keep wall decorations such as paintings or photo frames above the bed, which can affect the quality of your sleep
  • Keep the bed adjacent to the window

Do:

  • Place your bed in command position, i.e., at a place where you will have a clear vision of the entryway. However, you should be careful not to place the foot of the bed in line with the door.
  • Place the bed diagonally across the door while placing the headboard against the wall. This placement lends a sense of security and promotes more peaceful sleep.

Living room

Don’t:

Place the sofa or sitting area right under the beam. This can make you feel uncomfortable and restless. It is better to have the sitting position away from the beam with your face towards the window.

Do:

Keep bookshelves covered to promote the energy of the space

Cover up the television when not in use. The active and electronic energy of the television can be disruptive and covering it can bring a calming effect. You can find a beautiful scarf or a piece of fabric to cover the television every time you switch it off.

Bathroom

According to the philosophy of Feng Shui, water is associated with wealth. That means each time you flush the toilet, water and therefore, energy, escapes from your home.

Therefore, it is suggested to keep your drains and lids covered and install water-efficient water closets.

Also, you should keep the toilet seat cover down, and the bathroom door closed to keep wealth inside your home.

Kitchen

Take a look at the kitchen cabinets and check if they are up to the ceiling or if there is a space above the upper kitchen cabinets.

Why?

The space above the kitchen cabinets attracts dust and dead energy, thereby holding you back in your life. If there is a space up there and getting the furniture revamped seems like a costly affair, you can make some adjustments to reduce the dead energy.

How?

You can place some lighting or green plants or a beautiful showpiece in that location, which imparts positive energy and transforms the aura of the kitchen.

In addition to the above-mentioned areas, you should keep the area in the backyard and under the staircase clean and de-cluttered.

Clean clutter on a regular basis and remove things you don’t want. This helps in burning off the old energy while making space for some new fresh energy.

While all these points are basic Feng Shui and hold true for every household, the deeper and complex level of Feng Shui is related to an individual’s birth, place, time, and other details and should be done under the guidance of an experienced Feng Shui architect.
