Real Simple Feng Shui Tips for Your Home

What if attracting happiness and good health was as simple as fixing a few things here and there? Well, as per the ancient Chinese art of feng shui, it is indeed simple. In feng shui, it is believed that all objects possess an energy (called chi) that can be used to bring in health, wealth, and prosperity.

“Arranging a home to hold happiness in places in the primary goal of feng shui,” Terah Kathryn Collins, Founder, The Western School of Feng Shui(TM), California

We present you some simple feng shui tips to get energy flowing.

Let’s begin with the front door

The front door holds an important place in Feng Shui as it is the entryway for energy. Thus, always keep the front door area well-lit and bright. You can also place a beautiful doormat to attract positive energy. To attract opportunities in your life, hang a wind chime outside the front door. Lastly, always keep the entryway clutter-free.

Bedroom

Opting for soothing wall colours like off-white, cream, chocolate browns, and peach is recommended.
To accentuate the look of your bedroom, add a headboard to your bed. In feng shui, a headboard is believed to provide a feeling of support in life.

Feng Shui Tips

Always have things in a pair for healthy relationships. For instance, have two pillows, two lamps, two chairs, etc.

Kitchen

The kitchen sink and stove should never be opposite each other as it can lead to arguments between family members. Also, ensure that the stove is not placed under a window or the front door. Avoid using colours like black and red.

Dining room

Separate the dining room from your living room by placing curtains.

You can also keep potted plants to create a line of demarcation. Always keep the number of chairs even. Adding fresh flowers on the dining table can infuse freshness in the room and your life. Discard broken or chipped glassware.

Bathroom

The bathroom must always be kept clean with the door closed and toilet lid down. A no-brainer?

Recommended accessories

Use mirrors but wisely: Place mirrors in places where you want to increase the energy flow. Also, make sure that mirrors reflect something beautiful.

Plants: Show off your green thumb by adding plants and flowers to attract good health.

Furniture: The furniture in the home should be in proportion to space. Do not block any doors with furniture.

Lamps: To attract wealth, place a lamp in the corner of the room.

Feng shui seeks balance in everything. Thus, make sure that your home has something that represents the five elements — wood, earth, metal, fire, and water. You can also try to incorporate colours that symbolise these five elements.
