#SheInspiresMe: Ritika Dhingra, Design Head – Visual Merchandising, Urban Ladder

Your home will only feel comfortable when you make it a reflection of your personality, says Ritika Dhingra, Design Head – Visual Merchandising at Urban Ladder.

In an exclusive interview, RoofandFloor celebrates her journey in the interior designing space as part of our International Women’s Day series.

What inspired you to a career in interior designing?

My mother kept a beautiful home while I was growing up and her attention to detail and willingness to create a positive and welcoming environment influenced me a lot. My father and brother are both creative problem solvers, and all three of them together have influenced my work ethics and passion towards excelling in this field.

I was always encouraged to stand up for myself and my rights. I am thankful for all the little experiences and interactions that have given me opportunities to do what I love doing. For me, it is about perpetual learning and self-discovery.

What are the top three home décor ideas that you swear by?

  • Declutter.
  • If possible, spend at least four to six weeks in your new home before you start decorating it or investing in key pieces.
  • Stick to a colour scheme. But remember that a home will only feel comfortable when you make it a reflection of your personality.

What is your mantra for success?

Do what you love. If you do not know what you love yet, take time and do something that makes you happy.

In your free time, what do you do?

I spend time with my dog, watch movies, and documentaries. Apart from that, I like taking unplanned road trips or undertaking some knitting or indoor gardening projects.

Tell us that one thing that nobody knows about Ritika Dhingra.

I am not a secretive person, but not many people know about my ’45 minutes of staying quiet’ rule before I react to a problem in times of distress. This helps me collect my thoughts and react in a less impulsive manner.

Your advice for RoofandFloor women readers.

Trust your abilities and have patience.

Take enough time to decide what you wish to do in the waking hours of your life. Stand up for yourself and speak your mind. Do not believe everything you read or hear from others.
