As Bold as Brass! Brassware for Bold Bathrooms

In today’s homes, bathrooms are no longer an afterthought. They are designed with care and thoughtfully planned, down to the final minute detail. A retro trend that’s back on the popularity charts, brass fittings and fixtures add a soft sheen and a touch of glamour to your bathroom fit out.

When it comes to picking the right fittings for your bathroom interior, it’s important to keep in mind the look you are trying to achieve. Whether it’s an air of understated luxury, vintage charm, or a bold and edgy statement that you are trying to make, the fittings you choose should blend well with the wall and floor finishes, the sanitaryware and even the lighting.

Just incorporating brass-metallic tones in your bathroom design is all it takes to ramp up the glamour quotient! Aged Moroccan tiles in shades of beige through brown are the perfect foil for this vintage style bathtub mixer tap in matte brass.

The sheen of luxury

Satin brass faucets accentuate the look of the red-brown Italian marble counter and classical cabinetry, in a look that marries new-age style with old-world opulence. The brass inlay in the pilasters and gold edging in the cabinetry add a touch of class.

Fancy embellishments in the gold-framed mirror grab eyeballs in this stone-finished bathroom. The curved brass faucet and black-gold basin are a perfect fit.

Satin bronze

Vintage-style fittings in satin bronze have a subtle touch of gold, with a heritage look that exudes quiet elegance. Rose-brown flecks in the granite countertop and wood-framed mirrors complete the look.

Brass studs on the walls

Brass, brass and more brass! Subtle details like the brass flowers on the diagonal black tiles, brass frames to the shower doors, and brass handles, fittings and fixtures extend the warmth across the interior of this contemporary bathroom. Note the brass inserts in the flooring as well!

Tips to keep that brass gleaming

Brass is definitely in style—but not if it’s tarnished! If you’ve chosen to use brass accents in the bathroom, you’ll have to spend time caring for it to keep it in the best shape. Here’s how to keep your brassware gleaming.

  • Start by washing the brass with warm water and soap, to remove any dust or debris that has settled.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe dry.
  • Choose a brass polish that does not contain harsh chemicals. Use a soft cleaning cloth and apply the polish according to the instructions on the bottle. Rub till the shine appears.
  • If you don’t want to use a store-bought polish, lemon and salt will work as well! Cut a juicy lemon in half and put some salt on the cut end. Rub the cut lemon with the salt on the brass, getting all the juice on the surface. Rinse well with lukewarm water, and use a soft cloth to polish the surface till it gleams.
  • If the brass has tarnished and changed colour, try this easy fix. A paste of baking soda and lime juice can be applied to the brass, left to sit for half an hour, and then rinsed and dried.
  • Do note: If your fittings are merely brass plated and not brass all the way, then just warm water and soap will suffice.

A trend that’s sure to stay, brass accents in bathrooms add a stunning antique aesthetic and a warm, bright feel that never fails to make an impact. Turn your bathrooms into glamour rooms that are the last word in luxury by brushing them with brass!
