We want our homes to pack a punch. And the secret weapon in our arsenal? The Accent Wall. But don’t turn any random wall into an accent wall. Open the door, walk out and then come back in. Where does your eye go? Yep, that is the wall that deserves the accent wall treatment.
Accent walls are a great decorating weapon. An accent wall can breathe life into a small living room or provide solidity to a large room.
Paint it!
Who’s afraid of bold colours? When it comes to accent walls, bold colors are your best friend. However, choose your accents before finalizing your new colour for better coordination. The whole wall need not be painted whole – paint stripes on your wall or irregular shapes or patterns. You can opt for a metallic paint finish too.
Art on your wall
Accent walls don’t need paint to perk them up. How about adding a tile to your accent wall? Build shelves on the walls – be creative with their placements and design. Add texture to the wall with paint. One favourite option is to turn the accent wall into a gallery of photos or art.
Coordinate your colours
Pick the colour for your other walls first. They can be in any colour ranging from the fairly common white to gray or beige. A brightly accented wall in red or blue can contrast beautifully with white painted neutral walls.
Experiment with wallpaper
Wallpapers are a lovely option for accent walls. They are cheaper, easy to maintain and most importantly, temporary – making it an even better option, especially, if you are renting your house.
Spotlight on ceiling
How about adding colour to your ceiling? You can opt for either soft or vibrant colours. White crown moulding can add elegance to your ceiling.
Remember, accent walls can be used to highlight an architectural design on your wall as well as dramatic flair to your room.
